matter, can be a trek down a lonely road. . . but it doesn't have to
be. You can meet fellow writers through our user forums . This great new service allows you to post your questions and read
suggestions, solutions and snippets from other site members. You must be a
registered user to access this feature. If you are a registered user,

RioRoom forums will be open to anyone who cares to visit. After set-up,
only registered community members will be able to post on the boards, to
facilitate moderating the boards successfully.)
Not ready to
join? No matter. Meet us along the legendary banks of the Rio Grande
to talk about a variety of interests and concerns.

Welcome to RioRendezvous!
RioRendezvous extends a hearty bienvenido to those with an interest in writing--whether it be romance, poetry or any other genre.
Writers and readers are welcome, as are educators and animal lovers; separate pages will present items of interest to all. Or die trying. Visit the News and Noise, RioMix and Room 9 pages for takes on the news, trends, problems and concerns in education, and essays on current events. New to News and Noise : Halloween Monsters, Mayhem and Memories. Child Endangerment, or acceptable life experiences--a child who fed alligators talks about Steve Irwin, Michael Jackson, et al. New to Rio Mix : On George Carlin and Grief. For a look at the issue of over-assessment, check out "In the Beginning There Was Instructional Time ." Just added, an analysis of what "over-assessment" means to one first grade class in "Testers, Not Teachers." And let others know how you feel about testing by purchasing one of the bumperstickers at RioRomance --"Too Tired to Test" or "Teachers, not Testers."
For an up close and personal look at how tragedies in public education occur, check out my essay, "Lessons Unlearned: Tragedies in Waiting in Public Education" over at Authors Den. Also at Authors Den, "Why Janet Jackson Matters," and the never-before examined link between horses and super models, "Horses and Haute Couture ." Just added to Authors Den is "Snakes, Alive and Not," which chronicles a lifetime of torment by those of the reptilian, slithering persuasion. In our harried, worried, too-busy times, there are literally millions of offers, and millions of sites in cyberspace to consider; we appreciate the time you spend here.
Check our Shopping and Service pages for unique offers, one-of-a-kind items, and convenient incentives for the busy classroom teacher. (All classroom teachers, by definition, are busy.) Visit us frequently, as the site develops and grows. We look forward to having you drop by!
Readers and writers will want to check out the RioWrite pages, for craft information, editorials on the writing process/life, essays, poetry and reviews. New on the RendezvousReviews page, a review of Jean Brashear's A Real Hero. This just in: check out additions to "Cool Links for Writers."
And if pets--especially dogs--are your passion, check out the CritterClips page, and read up on rottweilers and great danes on Dogbits. New for 2004--"Legacy", in memory of my mother, whose Danes (and children) meant the world to her. Don't miss the original mugs, coasters, and other novelities featuring the Rio animals. See the complete selection at RioRomance ! In Denver, Colorado, pit bulls have been banned, and are being sought out and destroyed. Should breed-specific bans be legal? Vote now on the CritterClips page!

Cats&Company makes its debut under the CritterClips page. Cats are endlessly fascinating, often annoying, and occasionally dangerous...if they're big cats. Life is different through cat eyes, undoubtedly, so drop by and read up on felines and friends. Now available: Cat Chronicles: Stories, Poems, Photos, and Essays About Cats and Life, a new kind of book, written by three sisters with distinctively different ideas on the world of cats...and on life in the real world. Never Say Never?
|
|
|
So...if you've read "The Denver Dilemma," you know that I am not a pitbull advocate. I have gone so far as to say emphatically that I would never personally own a pitbull. And I mean that. But Darling Daughter whose Darling Husband's family raises pitbulls, decided to listen to her currently not-so-darling dad when he declared he wanted one. Enter Paloma, the dog I swore I'd never have. And don't, exactly. More to come on Dogbits!

Take Me Home...
|
|
|
Who says you can't go back? One of the trends in country music these days seems to do just that--go back in time, or examine the need to live in the present. Given the day's headlines, the speed at which the world seems increasingly to turn, I certainly cherish some simpler memores...red clay roads through Georgia pine, being able to go out for a ride or a walk in relative safety...memories brought back, to some extent, by several of the most recent, and successful, country songs.
My father panned country music, called it "low brow," "hokey," and a host of other unflattering terms...but check out my blog, "Low Brow and Barefoot" at AuthorsDen to hear a rebuttal.
